Overcoming the post-operative pain and swelling

  • Dr. Saulis’ goal is to provide you with excellent results and a positive surgical experience. Controlling and minimizing post-operative pain is a critical factor in getting you back to normal function faster and making your experience as positive as possible.
  •  For body contouring procedures, Dr. Saulis helps control your post-operative pain by placing On-Q pain pumps catheters in the surgical site at the conclusion of the surgical procedure. These pain pumps infuse a local anesthetic continuously throughout the surgical area essentially numbing the surgical site post-operatively for about 3 days. This significant decrease in pain has resulted in a lower use of narcotics post-operatively and less subsequent post-operative nausea and vomiting. Many patients after a breast augmentation or breast reduction never even find the need to take a single narcotic tablet for pain control. These pain pumps have revolutionized medicine’s approach to post-surgical pain and should be part of your post-operative recovery.
  • For liposuction procedures, Dr. Saulis infuses the area from which fat is to be removed with a solution containing a local anesthetic. In most cases the entire procedure can be performed under a light sedation as the surgical area is completely numb. This local anesthetic is effective for 4-5 hours after surgery making the immediate post-operative period very comfortable. In most cases liposuction is much less painful than surgery requiring large skin incisions and most patients require less narcotic use in the post-operative period.
  • For facial procedures, Dr. Saulis minimizes your post-operative pain by reducing your swelling and bruising with an herbal medication called Arnica. Arnica has been shown to significantly decrease swelling and bruising in post-operative patients.
